Toyota Material Handling Scoops Up Yet Another Design Award

The Toyota Tonero 3.5 – 8.0 tonnes engine-powered forklift has been granted with the prestigious German Design Award Special Mention for 2015.

Behind the internationally reputed German Design Award stands the German Design Council, currently celebrating 60 years of identifying, presenting and honouring unique design trends, with the explicit aim of advancing the design scene.

Having won some 25 design awards to date, Toyota Material Handling is proud to be part of that design scene. Other institutions promoting good design, such as the iF International Forum, have also recognised Toyota’s trucks. In 2014 Toyota’s BT Movit N-series received the IF Design Award. Two years previously the iF confirmed its iF GOLD Design Award on the company for its BT Optio L-series. Competing yearly for the iF Awards are more than 2,000 products, and winning an iF Gold is akin to picking up a “Design Oscar”.

Toyota products have also received praise from other high-ranking design bodies, such as the respected Japan Institute of Design Promotion. As recently as a month ago it recognised the Tonero 3.5 – 8.0 tonnes, by giving the truck its Good Design Award 2014.

Awarded the German Design Award Special Mention for 2015, the Tonero 3.5 – 8.0 tonnes IC forklift is a stylish workhorse. The truck is powered by Toyota’s in-house built diesel engine, which is a unique feature. Robust and strong, the Tonero will deliver high reliability in operations, while still looking good.

The German Design Award jury also deemed the BT Movit N-series tow tractor worthy of a nomination for 2015. In 2010 the same jury praised our Traigo 48 and BT Levio by nominating them for the German Design Award.

“It’s a joy and an honour to be invited to participate in such a prestigious design competition, along with the very best,” says Magnus Oliveira Andersson, Head of Design at Toyota Material Handling Europe. “Only products that exhibit outstanding features and solutions are invited.”

The German Design Award ceremony will take place on 13 February 2015 in Frankfurt, Germany.
